howdy,

 Clamp your piece in the drill press vise AFTER center
punching. Bolt the vise loosely to the table. Bring
the UNTURNING,(i.e. turned off) bit down to the piece
and push it into the center punch dent. Now clamp the
press in the down position to hold it there. NOW is
the time to tighten your holding vise,(or clamp).
Release the up/down clamp on the press, start it and
bore the hole. Works every time,(unless the power goes
out).
