i think the point anthony is making is that ideally you'd want as 
little garbage regular operating system guff on the machine as 
possible, thus freeing up CPU for plugin use.

Mac OS X is an *incredibly* heavy OS, and Windows XP is a *heavy* OS, 
hence the talk of Windows 98 et al - though Mac OS 9.x would also be 
suitable IMHO.
