Well, I certainly agree about the 8038, and yet.......
it was (and still is!) in such demand, that despite the 
original company being taken over, it has been 
impossible to cease production. One of the funniest 
application notes is the Harris one that admits to all the defects.
And look at it this way.. nobody has bothered to make a better one
(OK maybe that MAX038.. but it's too expensive).
Perhaps we could all take up a collection & pay him to get it right ;D
I'd love to see him meet Thomas Henry!!

As to the 555, now THAT was a winner!
