Wow - never would have though to see Gene Bedient mentioned on this 
list. Years ago I built a 'tuning machine' for him that he used  for a 
while. Basically a highly programmable pitch reference driving the 
timebase on a Heathkit 'scope with a narrow bandpass filter and AGC on 
the Y axis. Select your note (and temperament), octave and C pitch 
(calibrated periodically as temperature shifts), and when the waveform 
stops on the screen the pipe is in tune. The filter is 200 cents wide so 
you can pick out individual pipes in a mixture stop.

I knew a family in Cleveland that had an old organ installed in their 
(fairly large) home. That would definitely keep grandma awake at night...
