I guess a lot of you are on the Analogue Heaven list, and have seen this
topic discussed there.
There seems to be a number of different revisions of the Korg MS-20.
Some have the Korg-35 filter IC, with no screw in the VCA section of the
front panel, as seen here...
http://www.punkdisco.co.uk/misc/gear/Korg/MS20/Disassemble2.jpg
...these are thought to be revision 1. This one is serial number 14749X.
Some also reported to not have a daughterboard have serial numbers,
14392X, 1453XX, 14562X, 14747X.
Some have the KLM-307A daughterboard, with a screw in the VCA section of
the front panel, as seen here...
http://nwheaton.homemail.com.au/korgms20.htm
...these are thought to possibly be revision 2. Mine with a
daughterboard is serial number 14357X, others with a daughterboard are
1428XX, 1486XX.
Now someone has said they have what appears to be a later serial number,
1488XX, that does not have a daughterboard, but does have a screw in the
VCA section.
Maybe they went back to using Korg-35 ICs in later MS-20's, or maybe
they redesigned the main circuit board to incorporate a Korg-35 or
KLM-307A equivalent circuit?
If the MS-20 serial numbers are consecutive, then it does not seem that
Korg-35 equals an early MS-20 and a KLM-307A daughterboard equals a
later version.
Anyone know what the real story is behind these different MS-20
revisions?
Thanks,
Simon
