[sdiy] stupid ebers-moll question

Hi Karl and all,

Is is the collector leakage current. What you would find in datasheets
is Icb0, which is the same thing. Now measuring that small currents is
quite difficult. Practically you would make a plot of Ic vs Ub and
extrapolate. But there is usually quite a big variation on Icb0 so
applying the Ebers Moll equation doesn't yield exact results.
I for one wouldn't tackle an emitter follower or such circuits with EM,
but rather with the "golden rules" for transistors.
In most of what we are interested in, where the EM equation is needed,
it cancels out at the end (expo conversion, differential amps).

Cheers,
  René
