Ya, it's about spending time with the actual gear, then coming to 
whatever conclusion, like the Dave Smith Poly Evolver synth, for the 
price it looks & feels like a hurried design and IMHO flimsy after I 
spent some time with it. IMHO the best built hardware synths I've come 
across are the recent Access Virus line, I mean boarderline work of art. 
The little table top Evolver is a different story, the design / build is 
more coherent to its form factor.

I'm just talking build quality / user interface aesthetics.

You can make anything sound good if you run it into a killer tube chain.
