Heh... I haven't seen SSM2044s being sold by the hundred, myself, but it does seem like they made more of them than of any other SSM chip.
Then again, I rarely saw those rare Minimoog trannies -- the uA726 or something -- for sale at all, and then a lot of 1000 (?) came up recently on some unnamed auction website. So, there certainly could be hundred-packs of SSM2044s around.
If only they had made as many 2040s. Sigh...

Paul S has "done the math" and posted his numbers at least once, and the bottom line doesn't look good. It remains a pipedream, for now.
When is Canon going to develop the personal ChipJet printer?! ;-)
