150k is a common value.  To top it off you only get about 1/2 of the range
of the pot just to make things more fun.

Create a voltage with the joystick to drive a VCO unstead of tuning the
oscillator directly.

To offset the lack of full pot movement on the joystick, what I did was
added a trimmer at the top and bottom, each going to +-15v that way I could
set the voltage at each end of its travel.  That by itself should give you
a 0-10volt ( or whatever you set actually ) range.  You might not even need
the additional circuitry.

I'm a big fan of joystick controllers :-)
