The Multi-Trak IS memory dependent;  just replacing the battery isn't 
enough, you also have to reload patch info & do some re-initializing (pitch 
wheel).

The service manual makes note of memory & power-up problems on earlier 
units;  worth checking out.

I don't think the Six-Trak uses the Combo chip;  they ARE to be found in 
the Max (which turns up frequently on ebay), and are still available from 
Whine Country.
