I would agree with this.  Look at what the organ manufacturers are doing when 
it comes to stuff like this -- that "expression pedal" is going to see a 
*LOT* of activity over time,  and most of what I've seen out there has eithr 
taken this approach or gone with a pot that varies a DC voltage that's 
heavily filtered to get rid of the noise.  Even those that carry the audio 
directly and use a high-quality sealed pot (often dual or 3-section units for 
the separate audio channels found in organs) will eventually wear enough to 
get noisy,  and I don't know that replacements are going to be all that easy 
to find these days.
