Whoops - don't want to scare anyone, but yes that is 2.7GB of main 
memory on an Athlon-64. But, I'm synthesizing a Virtex2pro100, which is 
much, much larger than the Spartan3E.

You should be just fine with 2GB. The folks who need to think twice are 
those trying to squeak by with less than 1GB. (Did you ever think you'd 
hear that? "640k should be enough for anyone.")
