The 808, 909, Amdek, and probably most other Roland designs are all very
similar.
The key part is the use of a quad comparator to generate the 'crack' part of
the sound - a rapid fixed number of decaying pulses.
The 808 and 909 combine the crack envelope with the reverb envelope
differently - the 808 combines the CVs and uses a single VCA for the noise,
the 909 (and Amdek, I see) have separate VCAs for the crack and reverb
noise, and different filtering of the noise for each.
