Personally, I am not a fan of varnish. I would say go with wax or a nice
oil.
The problem with varnish, once you dint it or scratch it, you need to
recoat the whole lot to over the problem.
With oil or wax, you can either leave it as it still looks nice, or pop
a bit more oil or wax. Easy.
I have seen lots of attempts of making old synths look better. And a
varnish finish very rarely makes the grade.
