[sdiy] Seriously OT: Tesla Motors

I read a story somewhere that Tesla made the first good electric car.
Like many Tesla stories, it's a bit unbelievable. He went to an auto
manufacturer's office, and asked them to provide him a car with an
electric motor powering the drivetrain, but no power source connected
to the motor. He then requested a short list of components, mostly
resistors, tubes, and some wire. After about an hour and a half of
tinkering under the hood, he got in the car and drove it away. He
supposedly reached speeds of over 90 miles per hour. He then parked
the car, pulled out his tubes and wires, and left. Nobody could ever
figure out how he powreed the motor.

Spooky, but to be taken with a grain of salt. I should try to find
the source for that story.

Oh, here's something: http://www.keelynet.com/energy/teslafe1.htm

Sounds a little fantastic to me... but who knows?

Anyway, I wish the best of luck to the *new* Tesla motors. Somebody
sure needs to make a viable electric car, and I hope this one catches
on.
