You can get Toner for the ML-1740 on the web for $40-60.  Toner  
cartridges in this printer, with "toner save" mode on, are supposed  
to last for 5,000 pages (an overstatement of course, but it is  
nonetheless higher.  It is 3000 for non-toner-save).  Ink jet  
printers normally yield much less, maybe around 1,000 (again an  
overstatement).  Ink cartridges typically run $10-20 and up to $40.   
Yes, you certainly need to evaluate the cost of ownership when you  
buy a Laser printer.
