You need an ADC and not a DAC.

One of the cheapest solution (but not the smallest) is the use of a minidisk 
recorder. Analog in and Digital out.
Somt minidisk recorders even offer a digital noise reduction. My pioneer
has this feature: a very nice noise reduction that does not change the signal 
itself too much. (changes beside a small noise reduction not hearable).
