Yes (you are wrong on this :^)
The problem is two-fold.
1) The transformer magnetic field is coupled to the steel, causing a
induced vibration
2) The transformer core itself is magentostrictive (well they ALL are but this
one is worse than most)... so the core itself will buzz anyway
The fixes might be
1) Aluminum top and bottom
2) High quality Toroid transformer
3) External power supply retrofit (wall wart anyone)
(or 4... just kick back and BITCH about it... :^)

Your Matrix 1000 has a fan?
Or do you just not like the sound coming from the audio out socket? :)
Matrix 1000's (pretty much all of them) make an annoying mechanical noise. It's the power transformer, vibrating at 60/120/180/240/etc. Hz, mechanically coupled to the metal case, using it as a resonating box. Nice design, Oberheim.

I would think it would be pretty simple to mount the transformer on some rubber pads and eliminate the problem altogether. A seperate grounding wire could be added if necessary. Am I wrong on this?
Tim (wrong once or twice in the last decade) Servo
