I use a processed guitar to get pertty authentic 'bass guitar'
sounds.
The key (imho) for real sounds is to start with a sawtooth, or
sawtooth-like
wave. I actually make mine taking a square wave, filter until it
triangle
like (simple RC filter - 6dB) then half wave rectify that. You get a
triangle
shaped rise with a long return to zero. Then I use a vactol filter
driven from
an envelope follower... so that the harmonic content quickly falls.
I 'can' make the system pass the triangle wave. This has only odd
harmonics
and sounds like a synth-bass... much more bottom end, but not at all
like a
bass guitar. I like both flavors. Usually I'm using the
pseudo-sawtooth... but
if I decide on playing Pink floyd I switch :^P
