It occurs to me that I have some samples using the original 2N7 cap with 1.5M in parallel with the LDR's. They're on the Electro-Music Forum, with links supplied below.
All of the following samples were made using the 2n7/1.5M arrangement.
This is a slow, resonant sweep, using the DW6000. I like the low response, but my concern was that not enough of the response was shifting to the treble range. It's 12 stages, but with a twist - one channel is tapped from the 10th stage, one channel is tapped from the 12th stage, with resonance tapped from the 12th stage. This is a great way to get an interesting stereo response out of a phase shifter!

This is a sample of the DW6000 run through two six stage sections in stereo (six stages left, six stages right) each with their own control lines. Kind of a Mutron Biphase setup. One channel is modulated with a combination of pulse and triangle and the other channel is modulated with an inverted copy of the same signal.
There are two distinctive qualities about this sample - first, it demonstrates, rather than the sharp transistions associated with OTA/Transistor controlled phasers, the more slewed response of the Vactrol phaser. Nice when you want it, not so nice when you don't. The nice thing is that it gives it a sort of 'woody' texture when pulsed.
The second quality is that, if you listen to it, you'll notice one channel sounds a bit 'sharper' than the other channel. This drove me nuts until I figured out why. One capacitor, in the second stage, was a 1N cap instead of the 2n7 used elsewhere (a mistake when breadboarding). I liked this sharpness, and was sort of what sent me looking for a more treble-tilted shift this weekend. I'm thinking I may shift the pendulum back a bit, no pun intended.

This is a 12 stage sample, modulated with saw and pulse. Really woody, drum like sounds from the modulation.

By the way, the Electro-Music forum is great place to drop by. There is a DIY section, but, just as importantly, it's a great place for those of you who are actively recording music to make your work known - they encourage it.

The samples were from this mutating thread:
