You can test the DIN sync PIC using a couple of LEDs and resistors.
I have a DIN plug made up with a tri-colour LED in it for this.

Put one LED and series resistor (470R should do) from DIN RUN to ground, and
another from CLOCK.
You'll be able to see visually that the RUN line is staying on while your
master is running, and the CLOCK line pulses will be visible individually at
a low enough tempo.
