[sdiy] will an embedded sequencer send me to hell?

Hello all,
In the spirit of recent postings on PC vs. analog modular, I would like to
ask for opinions on my idea for a sequencer.
I have very limited skills in circuit design, but I'm a reasonable embedded
programmer, so I thought I could use a small embedded micro to handle all
the IO from the switches, pots, and jacks. I'd need several MUXes (DG405?)
since the micro will not have nearly enough IO to handle all the stuff on
what I want to build (something with the functionality of a moog 960).
This seems quite possible to me, so I fear that 1) it won't work and 2) I'll
wind up in hell for using a micro.
So, I welcome opinions and flames, and also if someone has built something
like this, I'd like to hear about it.
Phil (currently slipping on flame suit)
p.s. PCs have neither soul nor dignity, both of which analog modulars have
plenty of.
