In most cases you COULD "lightly screw down"...

(in real high impedance circuits the conductivity of the
wood could "screw you UP" :^)

You can make cheap plastic standoffs from a BIC pen. Remove
the ink cartridge and cut to length...

You could also add some insulation to the wood... 

I would ground the metal faceplate...
