Just a thought, but if we are talking ultrasonic delay lines, then there a
probably better media than springs.

Liquid filled tubes anyone. I understand that the spring gives a mass of
other reflections, but some kind of tube labyrinth might might perform in a
similar fashion.

Just a thought. I did some work on sonar processng geat a long time ago, and
I vaguely remember somthing about accoustic delay lines from then. they used
mercury tube delay lines as memory in early computers.
