I have an old Kenwood 250W power amp for my stereo and i want to use a
preamp to boost my bass signal so that the amp can power a stack. so i
breadboarded two 741s, the first of which is in unity-gain mode to
couple guitar impedence levels to line level impedence, the second is
in variable gain mode to go to the power amp. before the first 741,
the guitar signal runs through a 0.1uf capacitor. also a 470k resistor
between ground and the input of the unity gain op. my problem is the
huge amounts of noise i'm experiencing. at low volumes the preamp has
relitively low noise, but once its turned past a certain level, the
noise is very audible. at first i thought it was semiconductor noise,
but i substituted a TL084 for the 741s and i have the same problem.
any tips? i don't think its just 60Hz noise, but tips to decrease that
are welcome, too. sorry for the simple post!
thanks,
spencer
