I second that. There is NO excuse for that kind of intellectual arrogance.
Period. Unfortunately it does happen.

As "The Amazing" James Randi is so found of pointing out, one of the
dangers of getting a piece of paper that says "PhD" or something similar on
it is that you may loose the ability to say the three simple words "I was
wrong".
