So I've been making Buchla Envelope Followers on Radio Shack protoboards
like mad. I'm in the middle of my 4th one and I haven't tested any of them
and I just wondered: am I wasting my time? I mean is there a BETTER envelope
follower design I could be using? I'm sure there's a simpler one, but once I
had one done the rest were pie. I guess the big plus for me in regards to
makign Buchla clones is that I have a lot of 4136's.
I have examined Harry Bissel's envelope follower and I have to say I really
like the looks of it. I'll probably include one in my guitar synth that I'm
working on right now along with the army of Buchla envelope followers and
the pitch-to-voltage converter that I think I got on Mark Hammer's site and
the Pluck Follower from Device and Harry's Morph-lag and Ken Stone's Slope
Detector.
I guess I'm answering my own question. Cloning Buchla gear always seems like
the right thing to do. For a while I wanted to try to clone the Electric
Easel, but that seems to be a daunting task to say the list. It's amazing
all that he got into that box. I think of all of the synths I see on the
Web, the Easel is the one I wish I could get the most.
