[sdiy] tap tempo drummer midi controller thing?

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is such a thing as a tap-tempo midi controller,
such that a drummer could trigger a sequence and make it track his timing by
using something like the hi-hat as a 'tap-tempo' controller?   I am in a
trio (guitar/drums/keys) and we are trying to add bass parts in certain
songs without adding a 4th person, so I was wondering if there was some way
our drummer could be used to trigger and control the tempo of a sequenced
part in real time.
