Philips sells most of chip unit for $4.3B
Philips has been trying to unload unit as company shifts focus from
high-volume electronics to health- and lifestyle-related products.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -- Dutch electronics giant Philips
Electronics said on Thursday it is selling an 80.1 percent stake in
its microchip unit to several private equity firms for $4.35 billion.
[snip]
The sale could trigger an internal review/audit, ultimately resulting
in some low profit chips being cut from production. EOL-ed, I think
they say. Fortunately, I can't think of any synth-related ICs from
Philips. So... carry on, then!
