howdy,
Yes, they are loud. depending one whether you have a
one or two cylinder engine, the rythms are quite
different also, the two cylinder being imitated on a
lot of drum tracks. We got the old steam whistle from
a mill in Bellingham that everybody set their clocks
by for over a century. about 4 feet long, it has a
slide to change the pitch. it's good for about 3
octaves. We used to be able to hear it out on the
farm, I wonder if people can hear it town now that
it's 12 miles away. The valving mechanisms on the
engines are good sources of rythms, the flat belt
splices going around the pulleys can make interesting
patterns also. I won't even get into the sounds of the
slab chop saw or the 4 head planer. So , like I say,
where do you want to start?
