It all depends on if a half-wave solution is acceptable to you. To me... 
not !

I would only use the half wave for a few millivolts... or if other 
reasons (bipolar
with not CT on the transformer)... forced me into it.

I'd rather take my chances with a DC/DC converter  :^P
