If eight bit resolution or slightly less is all that's required, you
are far better off by using one of the electronic potentiometers with
increment inputs to produce the CV. Also, as with all true
potentiometers and resistor ladder DACs the reference voltage becomes a
multiplicative factor, so you can use another CV for that to get a
sidechain modulation.
