Mica caps were (are?) used in high voltage RF circuits, like tubes.

The best sounding, "normal" priced caps are metallized polypropylene. Mouser,
DigiKey, etc have them. at about 80 cents ea.

The best sounding non-polar electrolytic caps are Rubycon 'Black Gate', but
these are VERY expensive (like $18 each!).
