The 8038 is ok for non-critical applications, but in general, it not 
suitable as a pitch source.  There are other, much better ways to make a 
VCO, although, I understand the attraction.  Being able to have a single 
chip VCO would be a god send...still makes me wish that the old CEM3340 was 
still in production.
