[sdiy] Futurlec for parts...

Hi Peter,

My story is following your story so far. They told me that they were
backordered on the LM4040DIZ-5 and CA3046N, but that the order would be
shipped early this week. As of tonight, the order status screen still has
no entry for my order. I noticed that they will not inform you about
anything unless you send them multiple email inquires. I sent an email to
Alan the sales manager this afternoon but so far no update. Another thing
that caught my eye was that their "Specials" page is from November!

- Tim

Hi Tim,

I did not have a very good experience with Futurlec. Here's the story:

- 20th Nov 2003. Order placed online and confirmed. Nothing on the website
indicated that they are
not located in N. America.
- 20th Dec 2003. Enquired about my order. Told they were waiting for two
items - LM566 amd LM741.
- 29th Dec 2003. I emailed requesting they forget the two items on back
order and ship the rest of
the order.
- 19th Jan 2004. Email from them confirming the order had been shipped.
The order arrived a week later minus the two back ordered parts. Total
time - just over two months.

As soon as the order was placed my credit card was debited with the full
amount of the order in AUS$
- twice! The second debit was reversed the same day but due to currency
fluctuations I lost
CDN$6.00! Not a big deal, but annoying none the less. Also I realized
recently when going over some
old CC statements that I never received credit for the un-shipped parts.

I was also a little miffed that the web site does not explain that they are
located off-shore. If I
had known, I would have used Mouser or Digikey or whoever instead. Nothing
against Australian
suppliers, but it makes no sense to order from the other side of the world
when I could have
obtained most of the parts from a US or Canadian company and probably had
them within two weeks.

Just my 2c. I know others on the list have had much better luck with them
(Ken?).

Peter

BTW: For the list member who is still waiting, try emailing the sales
manager, Alan Bonnard at
sales at futurlec.com.
