[sdiy] Design solutions for analog polyphony and/or banks of VCOs ?

Hi list,
In the 80's, Curtis chips offered in great solution
(both in development time & PCB room) for analog
polyphony.
But today, as fetishists keep saying that those chips
should be kept to religiously maintain old gear, what
are the design solutions for analog polyphony and / or
banks of VCOs ?
Of course, there's the possibility to digitally generate
WF via DSP or uC, but that's not 100% analog.
Jurgen's Korg PS-3300 clone is an option, but AFAIR
several VCOs share the same expo converter...
So what if 1 expo conv per VCO is needed ?
What about a uC or Eprom-based multiplexed expo conv,
with several "simple" VCO cores, as quite a few schemos
are available online ?
Any better idea ?
Thanks,
JB
