[sdiy] Polysix without programmer?

I've got a broken Polysix. Don't blame me for killing it, I bought it this
way. The KLM-367 board sufferred the infamous Leaky Battery of Death
syndrome, and some chimpanzee (evidently) tried to repair it.

Thanks to the Old Crow, I know there is a way to fix the 367, but this board
may be too far gone. So...

Can the Polysix be used without a KLM-367 if one doesn't need
programmability? Or, does this board provide other vital functions?

Sure, I can experiment, but if anybody knows for sure that it's hopeless,
they can save me hours of, um, "fun." Thanks in advance for any insight!
