-better yet, ignore midi altogether... modify any older audio card you might have (by bypassing the coupling caps in the i/o circuits) to sample the voltages. if your audio card has eight inputs and eight outputs, you'll have eight cv's or gates to work with.
i've found midi controlling my 2600 to be somewhat unfulfilling owing to the stepiness of anything other than key voltage, and note on/off...
a downside to this is that many older audio cards have fewer inputs than outputs. my gina (20 bit) card only has 2 inputs... so it's a bit of a pain to move knobs around... two at a time.
