I did it by connecting the wiper of the PW pot to the (+) of a
jack socket through a 1M variable resistor. The (-) of the
socket was left unconnected.

  | V           ^
  |_____ NC     |__________ to  wiper of PW pot

Probably a dirty hack, but I was 15 and didn't know much about
electronics. Still don't, come to think of it. :-)
