Andrew,
i've built one minisynth from ray and am working on a second moded version. highly recommended, this is a lot of fun. bought the pc boards from him, good quality. i think it'd make a good first project, but take your time wiring the front panel--there are a lot of connections to make.
i've also build a triwave from 3ms--interesting project (in a droney noisy sort of way), but not the same quality as ray's (mistake on the pc board, less-than-clear docs). dunno about the tremulous, but it's a tremelo effect--will modify a sound source, but doesn't produce sound itself.
