[sdiy] 555/Diode Based ADSR Popping

I built 2 of these adsr's from a pdf i found..  they're similar to rene schmitz's except they don't have the transistors that combine the trigger and gate..  when i send trigger and gate pulses, i'm getting a pretty bad popping. . I'm using it with the ASM-1 vca.. any ideas?
