[sdiy] Blue LEDs: A simple swap, or otherwise?

you can replace them without caring about anything. 606 uses old
LEDs, so blue ones will light much brighter. 606 can be used then
also as stage lighting system. Blue's have voltage drop over 3V
(visible light from 2.8V AFAIR), while reds are 1.7V.
This, and higher efficiency is the only difference.

BUT
is the swap really so cool? Everybody's doing that now. The worst use
of LEDs I've see is in the cars. They use it everywhere. The younger
driver, the more blue LEDs.
606 might loose some part of it's vintage look with blue leds.

mark my words - in 2-3 years, maybe more, red LEDs will become
the cool ones, and maybe someday LED 7-segment displays wil be
so wanted as nixies were 1-2 years ago. I already have bought 200
really old vintage red LEDs, the ones that are dark dark red, emiting
nice warm dark red light. And they are all difused. 360deg viewing
angle, and a blast of 10mcd.
Now that's cool!

Roman

PS, if you're not doing the swap for him for free, tell him it's a coolest
thing in the world and make a few bucks.
