[sdiy] Blue LEDs: A simple swap, or otherwise?

I recently put some blue T1 3mm size LEDs in a project where I had
previously used red. Most blue LEDs (AFAIK) produce a lot more light for
the same current compared to reds and greens. I had to significantly
increase the current limiting resistor to keep the LED brightness
reasonable.

It was not so much a craze for me as it was that the device already has a
series of red and green and I wanted something different on the same panel.

Subject: [sdiy] Blue LEDs: A simple swap, or otherwise?

Hi there,

A friend has asked me if i could replace the red leds on his tr-606 for
blue.

Is the higher current drain of the blues a point to consider, or is it just
a simple swap?

If its a simple swap, is there any case where it wouldnt be?

Plus, am i missing the point with this blue led 'craze'? Why so much
interest in a different colour?

(yeah, i know theyre brighter, and open up full colour led displays etc.etc
but for musical equipment?)

Thankyou,

Julian
