You may look at Intersil. They have a classic little chip around which you can
easilly make a fairly small Frequency Counter yourself. Hmm... can't find it
on their web now. Have they finaly put it to rest?
That is a classic but not very advanced counter really. Should work well for
a DIYer and besides many simple counters you buy is probably of the same degree
of advancement.
A little more advanced one could easilly set up a reciprocal counter. If it
wheren't for that my FPGA seems broken (sob ;( ) I could easilly create a
little design for you.
