Have you considered giving Linux of FreeBSD a try, or running NetBSD on
a Sun workstation?

Haven't seen his pics. Still, you've got a way to go before you can
begin to challenge my space.

What you need are some shelves to take up some of that unused wall
space and fill them up (no now with what's already in the pictures!);
that will help. Perhaps tossing in a bean-bag chair and piling more
things on it would also help to give it a "comfy 'lived in' feeling."
