[sdiy] Cutting rotary encoder shafts??

I've used the normal not re-enforced cutting disks to cut openings for
displays in steel (yuck!) 19" front panels.
Quite a number of disk broke, exploded or had a violent end of live
otherwise.
Some hit my hands from close distance and I wasn't wearing gloves.
However, in general the disks fragments don't have enough energy to
penetrate human skin.
When they make contact with your bare skin it likely hurts a bit, but that
is cause the disks get damn hot.
Then again contact time is short and I didn't get burnt, then again again
you may get less lucky and end up with a tiny blister.

Eyes are a other matter, IMO good fully enclosing eye protection is
mandatory.

Think my message is, be careful but don't be scared.
If a tool scares you, then don't use, cause your more likely to make a
accident when your are.

Have fun,
Theo
(feeling in the mood for a "Black and Decker" movie)
(= horror flick featuring LARGE power tools, tiny dremels just don't cut it)
