[sdiy] recycle question

i have a recycle question. i've taken the complete display section (well, a
bunch of green and red led's on its own circuit board with ic's etc) out of
an old cassette deck. it was connected to the main board with a 5 wire small
flatcable, which is still there.

i'd like to use this in something.. volume indication in a synth, filter
indication..etc. does anyone know how to drive this thing? i figure of the 5
inputs to the circuits, one is ground, one is power, and 2 are left and
right input. what sort of power does it take? could i just hook this up to,
say, a 9v battery and an audio output of some sort and get it to work? or is
this hopelessly simplistic? the 2 driver ic's are sharp ir2e19's, but there
are no datasheets anywhere..
