[sdiy] Metal nipples

Okay, this is kind of OT. (For a change.)

I have a smoke machine in pieces on my kitchen table at the moment. The
copper pipe from the pump is broken at the point where it enters the
heating chamber. Thomann have sent me a new pipe, which is a start, but
the old pipe was held in place with a kind of rivet/grommet/nipple which
looked like it was either welded to the pipe or possible crimped to it.
Without this nipple the pipe falls out as soon as the pump comes on,
spraying hazing fluid all over the insides of the machine. Not good...

The chances of getting an official nipple (?) from Thomann are not
excellent at this point. They seem a little confused about customer service
over there, and I was expecting the pipe to come with the nipple pre-attached.

Has anyone here dealt with this kind of thing? The problem is how to fix
the pipe in place wrt the bolt that it passes through. The catch is that
the heating chamber reaches hundreds of degrees, so it needs to be a
heat-fast kind of an answer. Any suggestions for
parts/substitutions/techniques would be welcome.

Cheers,

Richard
