Time... I want it this century.  There is only so much
that one person is going to get his arms around. This
is another example of the increasing cost of
technology.

I could emulate everything from the Matrix6R, as well
as my interface needs... but by the time I re-invent
the wheel my work will already be obsolete.

With the speed that components become unavailable
today,
I would be buying EOL stuff by the time I was finished
development.

Now if I was making a FUCKING CELL PHONE I'd have
enough
support to have a whole crew working and we could turn
the design in weeks instead of years.  Fast enough to
make some before the parts disappear.

So big players have additional leverage to compete
against small players... and there are no smaller
player
than an individual.

That said, one of the great benefits of s-diy is that
we can leverage our knowledge, buying power etc...
almost like being "BIG"
