It looks as though an alternative, although not pin compatible, would be the
CD4008. Whaddya think?

My plan for a 16-step sequencer was to use Thomas Henry's Superseque as a
starting point, which uses the 4516 binary up/down counter. I see where the
4516 is not as flexible as the '283 or 4008, so I will have to reevaluate.
